Ñaña. Quichua word for sister. That is how sisters call each other in Ecuador, my country: “ñaña”. Through my camera I investigate her world: the subtle or great changes of her face from one year to the next, her infant innocence that constantly drops into sensuality, her relationship with the world around her, the ambiguity of many of her moments and the “woman” she loves to play in front of me. Growing up with paradigms about “what a woman should be” and suddenly having a sister when I was nineteen years old, has made me much more aware of her process of growth. I want to photograph her for the next 15 years and experience her changes. Right now, through her, I have the opportunity to reinvent my own childhood. |
